Nutrition Counselling

Tailored guidance and support optimizing a pet’s overall well-being through proper dietary choices.

Proper nutrition can prevent and reduce the effects of common ailments that can develop in your pet such as dental disease, skin infections or osteoarthritis. Our veterinarians have immense knowledge on nutrition for cats and dogs. We can create feeding routines and special diets to ensure your furry friend does not lack any nutrients to fuel their bodies.

What is nutrition counselling?

Nutrition counselling is a routine checkup where we review your pet’s diet. The consultation is designed to ensure your pet is getting the right nutrients to aid in their growth and immune defense. The veterinarian will want to know how often your pet eats, how much is usually given for a meal, if they’ve had any reactions or issues with eating. We perform a physical check to ensure they are developing as they should for their age. During this visit pet owners are encouraged to ask questions about new foods they might want to introduce into their pet’s diet and get recommendations on foods that are beneficial to their specific pet.

Should I feed my puppy or kitten different foods from adult pets?

Yes! Even though both young and adult pets need the same nutrients, they have different lifestyles and are at different stages of development. Puppy and kitten foods need to be more protein based as it helps with muscle development, whereas adult pets don’t need it as much. Our team can recommend foods for your pet during their counselling session. To book a nutrition counselling appointment, contact us at 416-463-8387.

How do I know which food products are good for my pet?

With so many options it’s hard to decide which food products are better suited for your pet. We completely understand how overwhelming this can be. The foods we provide and recommend are rich in protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals. We also encourage our clients to look for labels marked with the statement “complete and balanced” as these products contain a good ratio of nutrients.
