Both spays and neuters are surgical procedures that remove the reproductive organs. The procedures stop the heat cycle in pets and eliminate the problematic behaviours that come with that stage of their life. During the surgery a small incision is made near the scrotum in males and the abdomen for females. The testicles are removed in neuter surgery, while the uterus and ovaries are taken out in spay surgery. To make recovery much easier our hospital also offers laparoscopic spays and neuters which is less invasive and burdensome on the body.
We generally perform spays and neuters when pets are 6-months-old, for large breed male dogs we neuter them between 16 to 18-weeks-old. Studies show that by neutering your pet at an early age, you help prevent them from developing diseases and infections when they are older.
